Marcus Bontempelli鈥檚 Journey

By Aaron, Year 9

This is my artwork about a popular football player鈥檚 identity named Marcus Bontempelli. The artwork is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci鈥檚 perspective artworks. Leonardo da Vinci鈥檚 artworks could make things look closer or further away depending on the forced perspective. I have used perspective in my drawing, as the path Bontempelli is walking on looks as if it鈥檚 getting further away. It was made using 110GSM journal A3 paper, black pen and grey, green, blue, red and black pencils. I used line in the drawing to create the path that Bontempelli is walking on. I used shape to create the shape of the symbols. I used colour to colour the different symbols. I left the background black and white to draw attention to the symbols.

The different symbols symbolise different aspects of Bontempelli鈥檚 career. The symbols near the bottom of the page are aspects early in his life and the symbols at the top symbolise his achievements. The empty space in the middle shows the hard and unrecognised work that was needed to a be able to achieve the awards he has. He was born in Victoria, Australia and came from an Italian background. Botempelli played basketball and AFL in his early life. The birdlike symbol is the logo of the school he went to, which is Marcellin College. In the middle there is a drawing of the back of him walking on the path that shows him wearing his jersey and number. The path leads to the AFL goals which symbolises him always moving towards his goals. The full body portrait of Bontempelli on the right is him in his All-Australian Team vest. On the left is the logo of the Western Bulldogs which is the team he has played for his whole career. In the middle is the premiership trophy. On the trophy is his premiership medal and the Charles Sutton medal (Best and Fairest). The path leads here because these achievements are the pinnacle awards of his career.

I chose this player as he plays for the AFL team I support and is my favourite player. He inspires me to try my hardest and work towards my goals. I am quite happy with my artwork. Colouring only the symbols does make them stand out. Even though the middle section does serve a purpose it still looks a little bland. Adding some dark colours may be able to make the artwork more eye catching.
