Small Pieces of Life

‘Small pieces of life’ is an artwork that was created to show the small pieces of my identity that is likely missed. This artwork communicates with me as an individual because it shows the way I feel about certain objects and the things I’ve gotten attach to. When creating this artwork on myself I realised I didn’t know much about the person I am even though it’s me. My aim for this artwork was to show the small parts I know about myself while learning about who I am as a person.

Throughout the exploration of different artists, I discovered William Kentrage who creates highly toned based artworks with a lot of depth to try making his audience feel a certain emotion. Leonardo Da Vinci creates lots of artworks that focus on a singular detail or person making that thing stand out. William Kentrage had a big influence on my artwork which was to have nice smooth lines while using tone to add depth into an art piece. I chose to use watercolour in one of the artworks included because I thought the artwork was too dark if I were to use charcoal and needed pop of colour to try reducing the amount of tone used.

I was motivated that I wanted to share with the viewers that the use of colours normally hard a deep meaning and how it can have a big impact on the artwork. The use of colours in this artwork was used in a way to represent that life may be dark but there’s also colour through the dark and the beauty that most people miss within the darkness.

The artwork defines my identity, which are my interests and things that are important to me. Interests are things that make up your identity, you as a person and they will give you the motivation to come up with your own ideas.
