Parliament House Excursion for Year 9 Students

Year 9 students visited the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in Week 8 of Term 4. They experienced a guided tour of Parliament and witnessed the Members of Parliament sitting in the Chamber discussing various current issues. One group witnessed a division on whether forming a corruption commission in the Territory should be discussed.

The Chief Minister Natasha Fyles, the Leader of the Opposition Lia Finocchiaro and Howard Springs MLA Gerard Maley all took time to speak to the students. The students were also able to participate in an interactive session with the Northern Territory Electoral Commission where they learned about democracy, voting and how to count votes in a preferential voting system.

A special thanks to Alison, Leanne and Karen for their time and enthusiasm to ensure this was an interesting and engaging learning experience for our students. Thank you.
