Mining for Choc Chips

Year 8 Science students have been learning about the mining process, the varied job opportunities and the assessments mines need to undertake to weigh up the cost/profit, along with the social and environmental impacts. As a result, they mined cookies for choc chips. They were assessed on their choc chip quality and quantity and whether they were able to return all of the cookie material and not lose any to the environment.

The cookie packet suggested that the cookies contained 20% choc chips. Students were able to mine 17.3%. The mining manager was pretty happy with that return. What a fantastic Science lesson - well done students and Science teacher / Learning Area Coordinator Jessica Neilsen.
